Organizers are still collecting funds for this year’s Fourth of July fireworks display and are a few hundred dollars from their goal.
Larry Pierce said Tuesday morning they needed $1,500 to reach this year’s goal of $12,000 with two weeks left until the show. The display will be at 10 pm July 4 in Santa Fe Park with some pre-show events that are still being lined up for the evening.
The pyrotechnics order has already been placed with Aerial FX, the company that supplied last year’s display. The 20-minute display will include five- to ten-inch shells, and will be accompanied by patriotic music on radio station KINZ on 95.3.
The city of Chanute will provide a bounce house at 7 pm and a dunk tank will be available to raise funds for Chanute Community Theatre. Food vendors will open between 6 and 6:30 pm July 4.
Pierce thanked the public for donating and said Chanute has one of the best displays in the area. He said this year’s fund drive was more difficult.
“We’re steadfast and true,” he said, adding that donations will be accepted up until the day before the holiday.
Those who still wish to donate to this year’s show, or to provide seed money for the 2020 display, can take donations to the Chanute Memorial Building or send them to the attention of the Fireworks Fund at PO Box 907, Chanute, KS 66720.
