With great academic dignity befitting his post in higher education, the president of Neosho County Community College geeked out during the weekend.

Dr. Brian Inbody and his teenage daughter Alayna attended Planet Comicon at the convention center in Kansas City on Saturday and Sunday. This was the 20th year for the convention of science fiction, fantasy and popular culture fans and Inbody said it was the second for him and his daughter, who dressed in a Star Trek uniform to meet original series star William Shatner.

“It’s a fun weekend,” Inbody said. “Thousands of people there.”

They also met Henry Winkler, known for the character The Fonz in the 1970s TV series “Happy Days.” Inbody said part of the reason they went was because they are fans of the movie “The Princess Bride,” and convention guests included actors Wallace Shawn, Chris Sarandon and Cary Elwes.

Inbody said they got autographs from Shawn, Sarandon and from artist Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, who autographed comic books Inbody has kept since he was 10 or 12. They attended a question and answer session with Elwes and saw three of the actors who played the Weasleys in the Harry Potter movies.

Several Chanute residents also attended, Inbody said.
