Royster Middle School vocalists will treat the public to a wide variety of music at their Spring Concert on Tuesday, including the Chanute premiere of a piece composed by a former CHS graduate.

Alex Thomen, a former student of RMS choir director Lance Burnett, wrote the lyrics and music for “I Married Adventure” specifically for the Vocal Plus choir to perform at the 2019 Kansas Music Educator Association conference at Wichita in February. It is based on the life and spirit of Martin and Osa Johnson.

The 2012 CHS grad is a performer, composer and arranger of jazz, rock, pop and orchestra, as well as a recording artist who now resides at Miami, Fla.

The Spring Concert will begin at 7 pm in the Chanute Memorial Auditorium. There is no cost for admission and the public is invited to attend.

Featured this year will be four performance groups, the Sixth Grade Choir, Vocal Plus Choir and two new groups, the Bellas, an all-female ensemble, and the Treblemakers, an all-male ensemble.

Music will range from gospel to jazz, Kenyan, Motown, Broadway and pop songs. Accompanying the music will be text and poetry from Mark Twain, Henry Longfellow, Goethe and ancient Hebrew.
