Robert (Bob) L. Maxwell, 83, passed away in his Humboldt, KS home Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019. He was born in Primrose, Nebraska on July 18, 1936 to Robert and Meta Nuerenberger Maxwell. Bob’s mother died when he was 3 years of age and he and his sister were raised by his father and grandmother. He graduated from Primrose high school in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Air Force later that same year. He served 4 years stationed in Japan as an aircraft mechanic. He married Kathleen “Kitty” Zumpfe of Crete, NE in January 1959. They lived in Casper, WY for 20 plus years where they raised 4 children; Lisa Burridge (Tim), Robert Maxwell (Cory) Steve (Patty) and Glenda Darnall (Jeff).
Bob owned and operated a service station in Casper. He and his wife also owned and ran The Mountain Inn Restaurant on Casper Mountain before it was destroyed by fire. Bob sold real estate for a period of time, but his primary occupation was carrying mail for the US Postal Service. He and Kitty moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1984 where he continued to carry mail until he retired in 1992. During those years he lost his wife to cancer and remarried Neoma Jakubowske Thomas. After he retired, they relocated to Evanston, WY and then to Humboldt, KS where he and Neoma transported RV units all across the country. He loved to hunt and fish. His hobby was woodworking. He was a devoted family man and father.
He is survived by his wife, Neoma, his four children, 4 stepchildren, 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Meta Maxwell, his first wife, Kathleen “Kitty” Zumpfe Maxwell, his sister, Norma, his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. We will miss his voice, his smile, his laughter, and his subtle sense of humor, his advice and opinions. He was a source of strength for his family.
