Coffeyville woman rolls car after blowout
Melinda Ann Carr, 54, of Coffeyville, was northbound on U.S. 169 Highway at 8 p.m. July 19, about a mile east of Humboldt, when her tire blew out, causing her vehicle to enter the east ditch, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported. The vehicle rolled twice and came to rest on the driver’s side facing west.
Carr sustained possible injuries, but the KHP did not report that she was taken to a hospital. Carr was wearing a safety restraint.

New power transmission group could be in Chanute’s future

Main Street begins Construction Cash

A new promotional program in downtown Chanute will benefit businesses and shoppers alike.
The program is called Construction Cash, and is similar to the Spend It In Chanute program.
The new program’s goal is to increase shopping downtown during the current construction project at Main and Lincoln. Simply put, many of the businesses downtown have been inconvenienced by the construction.

Santa Fe Park may get new restrooms

Santa Fe Park offers a little bit of everything.
Of course, fishing and boating options are plentiful at the park, which stretches nearly 250 acres.
There’s playground equipment for the little ones, and there’s picnic tables and shelters, too.
There are ball fields, a sand volleyball court and at times, a farmers market is close by.

Asphalt overlay approved to dress up downtown

An asphalt overlay will now put the finishing touches on the Main and Lincoln street renovation project in downtown Chanute.
A bid proposal for the asphalt overlay project was unanimously approved on Monday night at the regular meeting of the Chanute City Commission.

New sign hung for 20-year-old acupuncture business

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt resident Paul Finney hung a new sign at his acupuncture clinic Friday.
Finney opened his Humboldt office at 714 Bridge Street office in 1992, five years after starting his practice in Wichita in 1987.
Finney currently operates two clinics, one in Humboldt and one in Prairie Village, Kan.

Matt Bollig, who was an all-state quarterback and a free-safety for the Comets football team in 2010, reportedly severed his spine on Wednesday in a weightlifting accident at Ottawa University.

Main and Lincoln renovation project moving along

If anyone inquires about the Lincoln and Main Street intersection renovation project, Chanute City Manager J.D. Lester and Randy Vyhlidal, dirt foreman for Mission Construction, will say the same thing — the project is progressing nicely.
The construction project, which began June 11, is now 38 days in to a 90-schedule. Overall, the project is slightly ahead of schedule.
