35 participate in Elks Lodge fishing derby
The Elks Lodge 806 held its kids fishing derby at Elks Lake Saturday.
A total of 35 children participated in the derby in three age groups. There were three prizes for each group, one prize each for the biggest, smallest and most fish.
In the 0-5 age group winners were Peyton Drake, 5, with the biggest fish, Caleb Measles, 5, with the smallest fish, and Christian Bertie, 4, with the most fish.

The Chanute City Commission received an unexpected surprise Monday after hearing that local gymnast Casey Finley will compete in Denver at the “American Ninja Warrior” competition.

ERIE — The Erie City Council effectively fired City Superintendent Bruce Vogts on Monday evening.
The council voted 3-2 against re-appointing Vogts as city superintendent. His term ended on Monday. The city council must approve appointments to certain positions on the city staff each year for the employees to continue working for the city.
