An Associated Press story last week about the Kanopolis Drive-In film festival sparked memories of the NEO-CHA drive-in in Chanute.

Love was the theme of the the 28th annual Jesse Jackson Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.

Listeners in Chanute and southeast Kansas will hear some new voices on the air beginning Monday, Sept. 10.
KANQ, 90.3 FM, Kansas Public Radio’s 17,000-watt transmitter in Chanute, will switch from KPR2, a news-talk format, to KPR’s main signal, carrying NPR news, classical music, jazz and listener favorites from NPR like “Car Talk,” “A Prairie Home Companion” and “This American Life.”

Arrest made in Medicap break-in
An arrest was made after a break-in at Medicap Pharmacy in Chanute Tuesday.
Officers responded to a call around 11:39 p.m. from witnesses observing an individual breaking a glass and entering the pharmacy on 1720 S. Santa Fe.

Thayer man killed by tractor at Nebraska State Fair
A 75-year-old Thayer man was killed when his antique tractor rolled on top of him at the Nebraska State Fair, the Associated Press reported.
The Nebraska State Patrol said Charley DeWeese was trying to load his 1936 John Deere tractor onto a trailer when the accident happened Sunday morning.
Deweese fell off the tractor and was pinned beneath it after the tractor’s right rear tire slipped off the ramp, the report said.

Ash Grove worker injured in dump truck mishap
Ash Grove employee Bill Brown was injured on Tuesday when his 90-ton Komatsu dump truck backed over the edge of a sloped limestone pile.
Company spokesperson Jackie Clark said the accident happened at midday near the plant’s primary crusher. Brown was transported via helicopter to Joplin Freeman hospital for “assessment by medical personnel as a precaution,” said Clark. The hospital said Brown was in stable condition late Tuesday afternoon.

ERIE — The City of Erie has reported water conservation is working.
Stage 2 (Water Warning) of the water conservation plan is still in effect. The goal of Stage 2 is to reduce peak demands by 20 percent and reduce overall weekly consumption by 10 percent. Consumption from 8-2-12 through 8-8-12 was 1,500,000 gallons; 8-9-12 through 8-15-12 was 963,000 gallons; 8-16-12 through 8-22-12 806,000.

22-year-old injured in cycle accident
Casey Jasper, 22, of Chanute, was injured in a motorcycle accident on the North overpass Monday night.
Chanute Police, Fire Department and EMS were dispatched at approximately 9:43 p.m.
The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved. The accident is still under investigation at this time.
