Richey’s perfect game boosts Humboldt softball to sweep of Cherryvale
A perfect game pitched by Courtney Richey helped the Humboldt softball team swept Cherryvale in road contests on Monday. The 17-6 and 18-0 victories improved the Lady Cubs’ record to 6-2.
Jaci Ross took the mound for the first five innings of the first game, allowing six runs while striking out three. Cherryvale was able to score four runs in the game’s first inning to take an early lead.

Erie golf drives to first place at Sedan tourney
The Erie varsity golf team traveled to Sedan to take part in a varsity tournament on Thursday, April 24. Erie took first place as a team and had four individual medalists.

The NCCC baseball team will spend next weekend trying to get the heck outta’ Dodge City. That is where the sixth-seeded Panthers will be traveling to in the first round of post-season play. The Panthers finished conference play with a split with the Coffeyville Red Ravens on Monday. SEK anglers compete at Big Hill Lake

Chanute tennis player Lake Lund swung his way to third place at the SEK tennis tournament in Parsons on Thursday, a feat which helped the Comets tie for fourth place at the event. CHS senior Fiscus signs to grapple at Labette
Chanute senior Jared Fiscus jokingly claimed that he is choosing to attend college at Labette Community College just because he wanted to get out of Neosho County for a while.
Fiscus signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to wrestle for Labette. His parents Bill and Tammy Fiscus and Coach Andy Albright were on hand for the occasion.

The Royster girls track teams competed in a 13-team track meet at Iola on Monday. The school’s eighth grade girls squad picked up first place at the event.
“I was proud of all the girls and their effort,” Coach Teresa Taylor said. “They keep improving each meet. Several girls had personal bests at this meet.”
Royster’s next meet is Thursday at Coffeyville.

Comets golf 5th at Parsons tourney
Chanute golfer Dylan Funk shot a 91 at a Monday morning golf tournament in Parsons, a feat which helped boost the Comets to a fifth place finish at the event. The Chanute golf boys team had a combined score of 393 at the Katy golf course, which was won by Independence with a 332 score.

The Comets baseball team evened its record for the season at 6-6 with a Friday afternoon sweep of Independence. Chanute picked up the 11-1 and 4-3 victories over Independence on Friday night, in games that had to be moved to Santa Fe Park because of wet conditions at the Comets’ usual Katy Park stadium.

More Comets given chance to play varsity in home tennis tourney
Coach Wayne Woodyard decided to give more Chanute tennis players than usual varsity experience at the tournament that the Comets hosted at the sports complex last Friday afternoon. The local team was able to field two teams at the event, a blue team, consisting of regular varsity players, and a gold team.

Chanute Elementary School second grader Ty Leedy is already a five-year veteran of the sport of wrestling, and has now secured a national championship in the sport for his second year in a row. Last weekend, Leedy won at 8 and under, 55 pounds, at the Brute National Wrestling Tournament in Independence, Mo. It was his second year in a row winning this event, which featured young wrestlers from around the country.
