Sharks finish regular season

CHANUTE — The Chanute Sharks swim team finished the regular season by hosting Humboldt on Wednesday night at Quarry Stone Country Club’s pool.
Chanute won 66 of the 78 events, including all 12 relay events. The Sharks swept the top three places in 17 of the 54 individual events en route to a 527-199 victory.

INSTANT SUCCESS: Rollins qualifies for Junior Olympics

Madi Rollins just recently decided to give the high jump a try.

Schooley leads Post 170 to win over Garnett

GARNETT—Behind three home runs from Quinton Schooley, the Chanute Post 170 American Legion baseball team defeated Garnett 9-8 on Monday night in the opening round of the KABA League Tournament in Garnett.
Schooley led off the third inning with a solo shot to right center, hit a two-run homer to left in the fourth and capped his night with a decisive three- run drive to center in the top of the sixth.

HUMBOLDT — If you missed Friday night’s races at Humboldt Speedway, you probably missed out on the best Modified race ever at the Hummer.
With 27 Modifieds signing in for the evening, the track’s owners knew it was going to be an outstanding show.

CHANUTE — A busy week may have caught up with the Chanute Post 170 American Legion baseball team.
Visiting Wellsville spoiled Chanute’s final home date of the regular season, as Post 194 swept a doubleheader from Post 170 on Thursday night at Katy Park.

Chanute Sharks meet Hurricanes

For their fifth meet of the season, the Chanute Sharks swim team ventured to league juggernaut Fort Scott.
Outnumbered again, the Sharks still managed to win 23 of the 53 individual races they entered, but only one of the nine relays.
Disregarding the 150 points Fort Scott got on events where Chanute had no swimmers, the Sharks lost 225 to 349 in the remaining events.

CHANUTE — A slimmed down version of the Paul Lindblad Tournament was held on a blistering hot Saturday at Katy Park.
Chanute Post 170 played host to Iola and Osawatomie in a round-robin tourney.
Host Chanute went 1-1 on the day, topping Iola 6-5 and falling to Osawatomie 12-2.

It may not be as large as it once was, but the annual Paul Lindblad Tournament will still take place.
The tournament takes place today at Katy Park in Chanute. There are just three teams in this year’s tourney — host Chanute, Iola and Osawatomie. There are three games scheduled, with 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. start times.

Simmons football camp is July 11-15
CHANUTE — The Don Simmons Summer Football Camp will be held July 11-15 at the Chanute Community Sports Complex.
The camp is for all boys in grades 9-12 who plan to play football for the Chanute Blue Comets this fall.
The cost is $30 and includes instruction, refreshments and a camp T-shirt. The camp will be held each morning from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m.

CHANUTE —The Chanute Sharks hosted the Iola Seahorses on Wednesday night at Quarry Stone. The Sharks won 64 of the 78 events, including 11 of the 12 relays.

Abbegale Funk scored a hole-in-one during the SEK Junior Golf Tournament on June 23 at the Independence Country Club.
The shot occurred on the 96 yard par three 17th hole using a pitching wedge.

The Quarry Stone Junior Golf Team from Chanute fared well last Thursday at the SEK tournament hosted by Independence Country Club. The highlight of the day was Abbe Funk’s hole-in-one on the par 3 17th hole. Funk also placed first in her division with a score of 47.

Short-handed Chanute Sharks fall to Coffeyville
COFFEYVILLE —The Chanute Sharks Swim Team, or at least part of them, traveled to Coffeyville on Wednesday for the third meet of the year.
The Sharks were short-handed for the meet.
Summer schedules and a couple of illnesses cut the Sharks team nearly in half.
