Chanute’s track teams traveled to Girard on Friday to compete in a meet with 20 schools from around the area. The girls team came in 4th place with 55 points, while Pittsburg won the event with 104. The Chanute golf team only fielded five players at its Thursday night tournament in Columbus, as one was sick and others were attending to school issues. The Chanute softball team snapped its 10-game losing streak on Thursday, by sweeping Columbus. The Lady Comets won 8-4 and 11-9.

Chanute resident Paden Phillips won in his first ever race at the Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Championship Series at the Spring Opener in Wheatland, Mo. on Saturday night.
Phillips had not won a feature race in three years, but won his heat on Saturday and ran out front during the night’s third feature, ending up in “Victory Lane.”

The Royster track team traveled to Columbus on Monday, where the 7th grade girls placed 4th out of 10 teams and the 8th grade girls placed 2nd. The track team has two meets left, and, according to boys coach Dallas Masoner, there are a few guys that are really close to some school records.
