This weekend, some of the greatest athletes of all time will be in Chanute for the NCCC track team’s fundraiser, A Night With The Olympians. This event at The Venue on Main Street on Saturday night will feature Olympic legend Jackie Joyner Kersee. She is a three time gold-medalist who was voted the Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century by Sports Illustrated.

Cubs fall in championship game, but Humboldt still made history

However, the Cubs’ winning streak ended in the game at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, as Scott City won its third-straight 3A championship by beating the Cubs 74-55.
Panthers hosting Indy in today’s weather-delayed doubleheader
Weather has once again caused changes in the NCCC baseball schedule. Because of rain in the area this weekend, the doubleheader between the Panthers and the Independence Pirates that was originally scheduled to occur on Sunday will now be played later today at 1 p.m. at the stadium on the campus of Neosho County.
These will be must-win match-ups for the Panthers (5-5), after being swept by Independence in both games last Saturday.

After resuming its baseball season with a double-header sweep of Fort Scott on Tuesday, the NCCC baseball team lost two games to the Greyhounds on Wednesday. The Panthers fell 9-3 and 9-8 in the home contests, NCCC’s record is now 5-3.

Chanute baseball and softball fourth in pre-season SEK polls
Both the CHS softball and baseball teams were selected to finish fourth in a pre-season poll of SEK coaches. These results were released at a league coach’s luncheon in Pittsburg on Monday.

Struggles led NCCC sophomore wrestler Barnes to championship glory
Last, weekend, NCCC sophomore wrestler Le’Roy Barnes won a National Championship at 133 at the NJCAA in Des Moines. His victory came in a comeback win by fall over Mizam Tamaradze of Springfield Technical Community College

UDALL — The St. Paul Indians boys basketball team dispatched Flinthills 57-28 Thursday in Class 1A basketball sub-state action.
Both the boys and girls teams will play this afternoon in Udall.
