PITTSBURG — Chanute High tennis came just one point short in Tuesday’s varsity meet in Pittsburg.
The host team took first with 7 points, followed by Parsons 7, Chanute 6, and Iola 4.
“I’m so proud of these six seniors who played in their last regular season meet of their Lady Blue Comet tennis careers,” said coach Mike De La Torre.
Sophie Osborn, who normally plays in the #2 Singles spot, moved to #1 Singles.
“Although she lost her matches against Pittsburg and Parsons, she played some great tennis against two of the best players and athletes in the SEK,” De La Torre said. “Her win against Payne of Iola was huge and should help her in seeding at next week’s Regional Tournament.”
Lilly Falk played singles for the first time this season and totally dominated the #2 Singles division. She will return to doubles at this weekend’s SEK tournament in Parsons.
Haley Angleton and Caysia Crellin played in the #1 doubles spot.
“They got a huge win over a good Pittsburg team, which will also help at Regionals. Emma (Jacobs) and Gabby (Ruteledge) played great doubles, and I was very pleased they got the win against Parsons in the last match of the day.”
De La Torre lamented the end of the regular season for both the junior varsity and varsity squads.
“It’s time to push forward and get ready for the SEK Tournament, which will be held in Parsons this Saturday.”
