Galen Edward Thorsell, 92, Chanute, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Galen was born in rural Vilas on Feb. 3, 1918, the son of Edd and Sarah Lacy Pratt Thorsell. He graduated from Vilas High School in 1935.
He was united in marriage to Gertrude H. Walker on Dec. 24, 1943 at the Methodist Church in Dodge City. She survives, of the home.
He was a farmer.
Galen is survived by his wife, Gertrude, of the home; three sons, Edward Thorsell and his wife, Gladys, Wamego, William Thorsell and his wife, Valerie, Chanute, and George Robert Thorsell and his wife, Karen, North Mankato, Minn.; two daughters, Margaret Avallone, Silver Springs, Md., and Catherine Thorsell, Chanute; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Verna Mae and Marguerite.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Vilas Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from noon until service time at the church.
Memorials in his name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
