Wilburn E. Ludlum, Sr., 96, longtime Moran resident, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Vintage Park in Ottawa.
Wilburn was born Feb. 6, 1914, at Elsmore, the third of nine children born to Harvey and Emma Olsen Ludlum. He grew up on the family farm west of Elsmore and attended Sky Rocket Grade School.
On July 26, 1936, Wilburn married Pauline A. Dozier at Nevada, Mo. They made their home on a farm west of Elsmore for a year before moving to their present farm four miles northeast of Moran. He has farmed and lived on the same farm since 1938. Pauline preceded him in death on May 30, 2003.
He was active in the Moran United Methodist Church serving on numerous boards and committees of the church. Wilburn enjoyed gardening and he and Pauline raised most of their food for a great number of years on the farm.
Survivors include a son, Wilburn E. Ludlum, Jr. and wife, Barbara, Vassar; a sister, Edith Bolinger, Derby; five grandchildren, Roger Ludlum and wife, Sheryl, Waverly, Mike Ludlum and wife, Aimee, Waverly, Nancy Ludlum, Lenexa, Marty Paul Ludlum and wife, Kara, Lawton, Okla., and Polly Susanne Gray and husband, Roy, Dallas,Texas; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Paul Ludlum, a grandson, Steven Ludlum, and by seven siblings, Arthur, Lawrence, Harrison, Lucille, Gladys, Evelyn and an infant sister.
Funeral is 11 a.m. today, Nov. 10, at Moran United Methodist Church. Pastor David Shrum will officiate. Burial will be in Moran Cemetery.
