Nadine Westmeyer, nee Fowler, passed away on June 30, 2008, at the age of 89 in Chanute.

Beloved wife of 66 years of Herman Westmeyer; doting mother of Mel and Rex; loving grandmother of Travis, Ashley and Charlie; loving great-grandmother of Genevieve and Solomon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar Lee and Nellie Fowler; her sister Lorene; and her brothers Louis and Delmar.

Nadine was born in Paola and grew up in Medicine Lodge, where she met her future husband, Herman, while she was working at Carter’s Drug Store.

During World War II she helped build B-29 bombers at the Boeing factory in Wichita. After the war, she moved to Dodge City where she received her degree in English from Dodge City Junior College. From Dodge City, she moved to Manhattan when Herman took a faculty position at Kansas State University. While in Manhattan, she was an active faculty wife and busy mother, raising Mel, Rex and their dog Max. In 1972 she moved to Chanute when KSU transferred Herman to the Area Extension Office. In Chanute, she remained socially active at the Chanute Country Club, taking up golf late in life. She always enjoyed learning new things as a member of the Modern Study Club. She had a lifelong passion and talent for playing bridge, and she could always be found at any number of the bridge groups she belonged to. She and Herman enjoyed the comraderie and adventure of senior bus trips, and participated in many throughout the United States. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1202 W. Main St., Chanute, KS 66720.
