Phyllis N. Caler, 73, Iola, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park.

Phyllis was born August 11, 1937, at Humboldt, the daughter of John and Mona Willhite Durkin. She grew up in Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1955.

On August 27, 1955, Phyllis married Dale J. Caler. They made their home in Iola where she worked for Thompson Poultry and Gates Rubber Company until retiring. Dale preceded her in death on August 1, 2003.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Caler, Topeka, and Ronald Caler, Iola; a daughter, Janet Thompson and husband, Robert, Moran; two brothers, Joe Durkin, Springfield, Mo., and Raymond Durkin, Osage City; two sisters: Mary Ann Mueller, Humboldt, and Nancy Chandler, Chanute; three grandchildren, Amanda Frame, Bryan Frame and Courtney Frame; three stepgrandchildrenl two great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Caler, and two brothers, Clyde Willhite and J.D. Durkin.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) and may be left with the funeral home.
