He was born in Marion, on May 13, 1930, the son of James and Florence (Ward) Summervill. He attended Humboldt Schools.
He served his country as a 2nd Class Yeoman in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Arnold was united in marriage to Cleo Kittle on Dec. 31, 1952, in Long Beach, California. She survives.
He was a letter carrier for 35 years, serving two years as postal supervisor before his retirement.
Arnold enjoyed his family, working in the yard and garden. He enjoyed raising cattle, haying in the summer and cutting wood. He and Cleo spent many years square dancing.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Mike Summervill and his wife Pat of Chanute; three daughters, Gloria Ruggles and her husband Kendal of Chanute, Linda Summervill of Wichita, and Evelyn Jones and her husband Carl of Chanute; grandchildren, Casey Ruggles, Shaun Summervill, Nathan Ruggles, Tracy Summervill, Clayton Jones, Anthony Ruggles, and Susie Wools; great-grandchildren, Decker Summervill, Ethan Ruggles, Seth Solomon, Darci Summervill, Kai Ruggles, Dace Summervill, Coda Stewart, Adolyn Ruggles and Tinley Solomon; and brothers, Merle Summervill of Alvin, Texas, Glen Summervill of Wichita, and Jimmy Summervill of Humboldt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kerry Summervill in 1972; a grandson, Christopher Ruggles in 1981; two brothers; and one sister.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Big Creek Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Big Creek Chapel United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
