Andrew Clayton Reed Jr., 69, Thayer, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 3, 1939, in Chanute to Andrew and Vada Rufe Reed. He graduated from Winfield High School.

He married Estella L. Tubbs on Feb. 28, 1962, in Earlton. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Army from December 1961 until December 1963.

He was employed as an oilfield inspector for the Kansas Corporation Commission for 27 years.

He was a member of Thayer Masonic Lodge 149, Scottish Rite of Fort Scott, Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg, Thayer Christian Church and served on the Board of Directors for S.E.K.M.H. from 1994 to 2005.

Other survivors include two daughters, Lisa Bennett, Thayer, and Lydia McElroy, Parsons; two sons, James Reed, El Dorado, and John Reed, Wichita; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Kyle McElroy; three brothers, Marion Thomas, Chanute, Kurt Reith, Chillicothe, Mo., and Finis Shanner, Green; and four sisters, Louise Dirion, Tulsa, Okla., Mary Volpert, Manhattan, Vada Marie Morse, Iola, and Patty Reed, St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tracy Bozarth and Frank Reed; and three sisters, Penny Turner, Eloise Passmore and Betty Martin.

Cremation has taken place. A memo rial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Thayer Christian Church under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
