Bertha Irwin, 84, Augusta, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at the First Baptist Church in Augusta.
Bertha was born April 9, 1926 in Chanute, the daughter of Elmer and Hazel Sellars Yarnell. She grew up in Chanute and graduated from high school. On March 27, 1948 she was united in marriage to Harold Sam Irwin in Chanute. For a number of years she worked in Circle High School as a secretary. She was a wonderful homemaker. She volunteered as a pink lady at the hospital. She loved to sew, paint, garden and play her organ at home.
Surviving family include one son and his wife, Rex and Denise Irwin, Wichita; daughter Linda and husband, Kirk Merrill, Frederick Way, Wash.; brother Laurel Yarnell, Buffalo; sister Wilma Thompson, Chanute; grandchildren, Kimberly and Samantha Merrill, Jacqueline Irwin. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam on Oct. 9, 2010 and one sister.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer’s Association. Contributions may be left with the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, in charge of arrangements.
