Oksana Grugorivna Krokstrom, 34, Choctaw, Okla., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at Oklahoma University Medical Center after a two-month battle with a rare cancer.

Oksana Krokstrom was born August 5, 1976 in Lubny, Ukraine to Grugory and Lubov Grypa. She completed nursing school in 1994 and worked in Lubny Central Hospital. She received a Master’s degree in Management from Poltava University of Consumers’ Cooperation in 2007.

On April 4, 2007 she was united by marriage with Karl Boyd Krokstrom, originally from Chanute, in Poltava, Ukraine. Along with her son Oleksandr Shulga, she joined Karl and made their home in Germany. The family relocated to Tinker AFB, Okla., in June 2009 and made their home in Choctaw.

Survivors are her husband, Karl, and son, Oleksandr Shulga, Choctaw; along with her mother, Lubov Grypa, and grandmother Polina Lykho, both of Lubny, Ukraine.

Visitation will be at Hibbs Funeral Home, Choctaw, on Sunday, Jan. 23 from noon to 8 p.m. Family will be in attendance from 6-8. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hibbs Funeral Home.
