Evan “Lewis” Bridges, 73, Chanute, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 2, 1934, in Chanute to John Anderson and Agnes Faye Stowell Bridges. He grew up in Chanute, and moved back to Chanute in 2001 after living in Kansas City, Kan., for 39 years.

He was a dispatcher for P.I.E. Truck Lines in Kansas City for 20 years until his retirement.

He married Betty Louise Howard on May 11, 1953. They later divorced. He married Harriett Nancy Milsap on Nov. 16, 1979. She preceded him in death on May 3, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Dale Bridges, Elk City, and Glenn Fredrich Bridges, Chanute; a daughter, Tina Marie McCorkendale, Chanute; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and five brothers, John Junior Bridges, Wichita, Glenn Arlan Bridges, Byhalia, Miss., Gary Lee, Lyle Don and Terry Lynn Bridges, all of Chanute.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Sterling Bridges, two sisters and two brother.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on 14th Street in Chanute. Burial will follow in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery on West 21st Street in Chanute.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

Memorials in his name may be made to Seventh Day Adventist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
