Robert D. Ryan, 60, Chanute, formerly of Buffalo, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 25, 1948, in Fresno, Calif., to Leo Jackson and Anna Frances Divine Ryan. He graduated from Argentine High School in Kansas City, Kan., in 1966. He received a bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University.
He married E. Dianne Goodall at New Hope Baptist Church near Ottawa on Nov. 6, 1971. She survives.
He served as a police officer with Wichita State University Police Department for 14 1/2 years until his retirement as a police sergeant.
He served as a Buffalo City Council member and was treasurer of the Buffalo Senior Citizens Center.
Other survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Victoria and B.J. Stout, and Sandra and Christina Ryan, all of Chanute; two sons, Robert A. Ryan of Wellington, and Robert J. Ryan, Chanute; four grandchildren, Michael S. Ryan, Sean A. Ryan, Alexander Conde, and Courtney L. Ryan; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Jerry Robinson, Buffalo, Laduska and Rick Haney, Buffalo, and Jodi and Billie Bustos, New Mexico; and five brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Anne Ryan, Kansas City, Kan., Dwight and Shirley Ryan, Warren and Karen Ryan and Gary and Karen Ryan, all of Wichita, and Jack and Lana Ryan, Orient, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandmother, Edna Carlberg Creason.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Nazarene in Buffalo. Arrangements are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
