Alex Jonathon Eli, 23, Shawnee, died Friday, March 11, 2011.

Alex was born Feb. 10, 1988, in Chanute to John and Diane Powell Eli. He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended Garfield Elementary School and McKinley Middle School. After moving to Shawnee, he graduated from Mill Valley High School.

Alex had worked for IHOP in Kansas City and Denver since graduation. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved attending concerts. He had a passion for music, the outdoors, and most of all, for his dog, Sun.

Alex is survived by his father, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his mother, Diane Eli-Caldwell and stepfather, Bob Caldwell, Shawnee; a sister, Abbigail, Kansas City, Mo.; a stepsister, Krystan Koehn and husband, Bruce, one nephew, Karter Koehn, all of Coffeyville; a stepbrother, Max Caldwell, Pittsburg; maternal grandfather, Dick Powell, Olathe; paternal grandparents, Stan and Carol Eli, Coffeyville; aunts, Susan Kerns and husband, J.D., Shawnee, and Kak Eli-Schneider and husband, Paul Schneider, Topeka; cousins, MacKenzie and Jordan Kerns, Lawrence; Eli and Ty Schneider, Topeka; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew, maternal grandmother, Norma Powell, and uncle, Jim Eli.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. today, March 16 in Shawnee Mission Park Shelter 10 followed by a service in Coffeyville at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Bluff Camp.

Remembrances are suggested to the Alex Eli Memorial Fund at Community State Bank in Coffeyville or the Bank of Blue Valley, 119th & Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66213.
