Larry Edward Phillips, 68, Chanute, died at his home on Monday, March 21, 2011, after an extended illness.

Larry was born in Kansas City, Kan., on August 16, 1942, the son of George R. and Cinda Lorene Mumford Phillips.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Allen on July 18, 1964 in Chanute. She survives, of the home.

Larry worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a foreman, retiring after 22 years. Most recently he was a door greeter for Wal-Mart in Chanute.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge #806, where he served as Exalted Ruler from 2000 to 2001.

Along with his wife, Sandy, he is survived by his children Susan Phillips Everett and her husband, Wayne, of Monroe, La., and Todd Allen Phillips and his wife, Teresa, Chanute; seven grandchildren, Mason Hume Everett, Benjamin Phillips Everett, Grace Lorene Everett, Jasmine Renea Phillips, Shayla Marie Phillips, Chelsea Marie Phillips and Nicole Ann Phillips; siblings, Robert E. Phillips, Chanute, Paul D. Phillips and his wife, Timmy, Detroit, Mich., Donald R. Phillips and his wife, Margaret, Chanute, Richard D. Phillips and his wife, Helen, Memphis and John W. Phillips, Wichita.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, David L. Phillips, Roberta M. Carter and Walter D. Phillips and his beloved dog Tucker.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25 in Chanute at the New Life United Brethren In Christ Church, 500 N. Forest.
