Sue was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Feb. 2, 1931, the daughter of Dr. Clarence J. and Lorah M. McCune Best. She attended Neosho County Community College and Texas Christian University, where she met and married Roger McAuley, Sr. They later divorced.
She was united in marriage to Manuel DeSilva in 1981. He preceded her in death in 2003.
She worked at Neosho County Community College for 11 years as a secretary. She later was employed as an employment representative in the Human Resources Department at Beech/Raytheon in Wichita, where she eventually retired.
She was a member of the Lawrence Welcome Club, where she enjoyed playing canasta and bridge with her friends, who called her “Sue.”
Sue is survived by her daughter, Catherine Williams and her husband, Christopher, Lawrence; her son Roger McAuley, Jr,. and his wife, Celia, League City, Texas; stepdaughter Tish George, Chanute; and grandsons Tom and Tim Williams, and Ryan and Justin McAuley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Manny, a so, Brad; and her only sibling, Nancy Rattan.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.
