Cordia VanWinkle-Isaacs, 87, Chanute, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at her residence in Chanute.
Cordia was born at Taney County, Mo., on Jan. 25, 1924, the daughter of Cal and Ora Jackson Strahan.
She married Orville Elleck VanWinkle on June 11, 1939. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1971.
She is survived by her sons, Orville Eugene VanWinkle, Benedict, Wilbur VanWinkle and wife, Becky, Chanute, and Larry “Rip” VanWinkle, Chanute; her daughters, Colene Davidson, Tonganoxie, Carolyn Norman, Leavenworth, Hazel McGee, Chanute, Wilma Leroy and husband, John, Chanute, Wanda VanWinkle and husband, Michael Stephanic, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Lora West, Ocala, Fla.; grandchildren Duane, Colette, Nancy, Rodney, Trevis, Kimberly, Richard, David, Rebecca Dawn, Aaron, Mariah, Suzanne, Patricia, Stephen, Sarah, Melissa, DeDe, Brian, Zeb, Sally, Nicolas, Monica, Audra, and Summer; great-grandchildren, Shane, Dalton, Gentry, Justin, Gavin, Holly, Tyler, Dillon, Brittani, Kylie, Xandria, Braelyn, Joshua, Kristjan, Ashlynn, Brier, Mikey, Mabel, Ricky. Aubrie, Adrienne, Nathan, Camarion, Christopher, Ethan, Zachary, Grace, Leland, Avie, Madelyn, Hayla, Isaac, Jade, Derek, Haley, and Hunter; great-great grandchildren, Owen, Tyler, and Evan; brothers, Wilford Strahan and wife, Lola Mae, Duncanville, Texas, and W.C. Strahan, Tucson, Ariz.; and sister Annette White and husband, Ted, Aurora, Mo.
She was preceded by her parents; great-grandson Nolan Kyle Bowman; long-time companion Cecil Christmas; her second husband Willard Isaacs who preceded her on Oct. 17, 2002; brother, Floyd Strahan; and sisters, Thelma Isaacs, Frankie Ramsey, Glenna Goff, and Rozelle Self.
Cordia was a member of The Church of Christ.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10 at New Life United Brethren in Christ Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.
Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society and American Foundation for the Blind and may be left with the funeral home.
