Marvin Francis Martin, 90, a resident of Vintage Park in Fredonia, formerly a longtime resident of Lafontaine, died Saturday, May 21, 2001 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Nov. 10, 1920 in Lamont, Mo.,, the son of Lewis Cecil and Pearl Mae Gowin Martin. Martin was a retired farmer.

Martin served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Lafontaine Christian Church.

On June 14, 1947 in Neodesha, Martin was married to Wilma Irene Mott. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2008.

Survivors include four daughters, Leesa Buchanan, Alta Vista, Sharon Buchanan, Neodesha, Marvine Alvarez, Elk City, Janet Smith, Newton; siblings, Juanita Armstrong, Janesville, Wis., Lewis Martin, Jr., Janesville, Wis., Dayton Martin, Knob Noster, Mo., Wenonah Angier, Vacaville, Calif.; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Two infant siblings and grandson, Scott Jason Buchanan, also preceded him in death.

Funeral will 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 25 at the Lafontaine Christian Church. Burial will be at the White Cemetery, near Lafontaine with military rites. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in Martin’s name with the Lafontaine Christian Church and contributions can be sent to Timmons Funeral Home.
