She was born Oct. 6, 1942 in Parsons, to Frank and Myrtle Johnston Journot. She grew up in Parsons where she attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and was a graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont. Following high school graduation, she attended Fort Scott Community College where she earned a degree in cosmetology. Later in life, she attended Independence Community College where she earned a cosmetology teaching certificate and had taught classes at Vatterott College in Joplin. She was a lifelong hair stylist in Parsons before moving to Carl Junction in 2005.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin. She enjoyed painting, ceramics, gardening, fishing, camping and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She and Richard McPurdy were married in 1983 in Miami, Okla. He survives, of the home.
Additional survivors include one son, Dale Gough, Parsons; four daughters, Karla March, Weir, Lisa Dhooghe, Diamond, Mo., Debra Shields, Parsons, Julie Ramsey, Carl Junction, Mo.; a stepson, John McPurdy, Kings Mountain, N.C.; 27 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a sister, Christine Jones, Valley View, Texas; an aunt, Ann Pontious, Parsons,
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Eugene Quirin.
Following cremation, graveside committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
