He was born June 18, 1944 in Pratt, the son of Calvin and Dolores Martin Davis. The family moved to Humboldt in 1954. Dick graduated from Humboldt High School in 1962.
On Nov. 1, 1989 Dick received GOD’S grace on an oil lease northwest of Neosho Falls. He was baptized in the Jordan River on May 31, 1990 in Israel. Dick was a member of the Big Creek Chapel.
Family was always his first love. He enjoyed people, baseball, history and music.
He was a truck driver for 28 years and retired in 1991 after his diagnosis with multiple sclerosis. Even after his illness began, he always had a project that he was working on and made many friends through his church and civic work.
On August 19, 1994 he married his best friend in life, Gloria, at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; three children, Tom Davis and wife, Melissa, Auburn, Ill., Lynda Davis, Bloomington, Ill., and Amy Utley and her husband, Curtis, Iola; three stepchildren, Brett Bearrick and his wife, Diane, St. Charles, Ill., Robin Bearrick and his wife, Beth, Chanute, and Teri Lund and her husband, Darrel, Chanute; a brother Doug Davis and his wife, Ethel, Beaumont, Texas; and a sister, Joan Scott and her husband, Glenn, Carlsbad, N.M.; 14 grandchildren, Brett, Mitchell and Liz Davis, Danny and Kayla Krouse, Brad Bazo, Allie Utley, Elizabeth, Clarke and Berke Bearrick, Ryan and Chelsea Bearrick, and Lake and Fisher Lund.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carol Smith.
An informal outside visitation will be held this evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at 807 S. Western in Chanute.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Kevin Olson Van Fund or the Kansas City Hope Lodge and may be left with the funeral home.
