Dale was born on April 28, 1925 in Parsons, the son of Ernest and Thelma Martha Vail Stemple. He graduated from Chanute High School in 1943 and attended Neosho County Community College.
He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
Dale was united in marriage to Roxana Reno on Jan. 3, 1947. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2008.
Dale was owner/operator of the Skelly Service Station in Chanute for 43 years.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #170 and V.F.W. Post #1654 in Chanute.
Dale is survived by a daughter, Sharon “Sherry” Boyer and her husband, Jon, Beaufort, SC; seven grandchildren, Erik D. Zimmerman, Chanute, Gretchen Donner and her husband, Aaron, Olathe, Jereme Stemple, Anna Stemple, Josh Stemple, Jesse Stemple, and Justin and Rachele Cosby, Walnut; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Roxanna, a son, James Stemple in 2006; and a sister, Jean Winans.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute. Memorials in his name may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church or the American Legion and may be left with the funeral home.
