Dan was born June 6, 1940 in Rupert, Ark., the son of Glyn and Ruby McEntire Emerson. He graduated high school in Alread, Ark. in 1958.
Dan was united in marriage to Sonja Ann Emerson on May 31, 1959 in Rupert, Ark.
Dan was a police officer for the City of Chanute from 1981 until his retirement in 1996, and he was also the owner of Emerson Plumbing.
Dan was a Christian and a member of the New Life United Brethren in Christ Church. He enjoyed singing and sang with the gospel group “In His Name.” His greatest joy was his family and playing with his great-grandchildren. He could often be seen on the riding lawnmower pulling a wagon with them and the neighbor children. He also enjoyed hunting and bass fishing. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Dan is survived by his wife, Ann; two children, Annette and Danny Emerson, both of Chanute; two grandchildren, Brianne Head, husband Josh, and daughter Callie, Chanute; and Aaron Emerson, wife Hillary, and daughter Elaine, Lawrence; foster grandchildren Miranda Abbott, and son Caden, Jeremy, Samantha, Levi, Andrew, and Gracie; siblings Glenda Tumbleson, and husband Doyle, Clinton, Ark., Jane Brock, and husband Joe, Rupert, Ark., Aubrey Mason, and wife Marca, Stockton, Calif., Carlos Emerson, and wife Sue, Hector, Ark., Dean Emerson, and wife Lavern, Cabot, Ark.,, and Grady Emerson and wife Ginny, Clinton, Ark.; sisters-in-law Lavern Emerson, Hensley, Ark., and Judy Opitz, Russellville, Ark.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ruby, brothers Kenneth, Tommy, Paul, and Steve, and foster son Sam Abbott.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6 in Clinton, Ark., followed by burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Rupert, Ark.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association and may be left with the funeral home.
