Peggy was born March 8, 1933 in Chanute, the daughter of Clyde and Winnie Whitworth Russell. She graduated from Chanute High School and attended Neosho Community College.
She was united in marriage to Nelson L. Coder on July 17, 1953 in Chanute. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1994.
She was elected to the Independence City Commission in 1983 and served as Mayor of Independence for two years.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 4 at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence.
