Louis Sanchez, 92, Humboldt, died Monday, August 1, 2011 at his home.

Louis was born in Schafter, Texas on March 25, 1919, the son of Casimiro and Vicenta Montinez Sanchez. He attended schools in Humboldt.

Louis served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He participated in the Rome-Arno, North Apennines, Po Valley and GO 40 WD 45 campaigns; earning a Good Conduct Medal, a World War II Victory Ribbon, an EAME Theater Ribbon, 3 Bronze Service Stars, a Bronze Star Medal and a GO 88 Hq 85th Inf Div 44 American Theater Ribbon. He also served in North Africa, Rome, Italy and Germany.

Louis was united in marriage to Francisca Rea on June 14, 1951 in Chanute. She preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2000.

He worked at the Monarch Cement Plant in Humboldt for 32 years.

Louis is survived by his children, Santiago R. Sanchez, Casimiro R. Sanchez, Maria F. Smith, Juana I. Huerter, Louis Leonard Sanchez, Ernest Eugene Sanchez, and Gerald Edward Sanchez; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Salvador Sanchez; and four sisters, Gloria Wynn, Manuela Powell, Esther Royston and Mary Ramirez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Anita Virginia Sanchez, a granddaughter, a brother and two sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Humboldt.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials in his name may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church and may be left with the funeral home.
