Virginia A. Piatt, 81, Arkansas City, died Friday, August 5, 2011, at the Medicalodges of Arkansas City. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, August 11, at the Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church. Jimmy McCullough will officiate. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Friends may greet the family 6-8 p.m. this evening, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Virginia was born June 4, 1930, to Benjamine P. and Martha A. Albertson Miller in Chanute. She was reared and educated in Chanute graduating from Chanute High School in 1948.

On June 2, 1948, Virginia married Albert Piatt in Chanute. The couple later moved to Arkansas City in 1951, where they spent the rest of their lives together. Virginia was a homemaker, and for years she was involved in her children’s activities as president of PTA, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. She worked at Medicalodge East until her retirement in 2002.

Survivors include her five children, Martha “Marty” Meadows and husband, David, Iola, Marilyn Cain, Pflugerville, Texas, Kathy Hummingbird and husband, Tom, Newton, Wayne Piatt and wife, Vera, Rodney Piatt and companion Pam Lough, all of Arkansas City; two brothers in law, William Hays, Comanche, Okla., George Edwards, Wichita; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Albert Piatt, 12 siblings, a grandson David Meadows, Jr., and a grandson-in-law Bobby Anderson.

A memorial has been established with the Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church or the Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
