Arthur Mack Ayers, 86, Fredonia, died Sunday, January 11, 2009, at Fredonia Regional Hospital.

He was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Almond, Ark., to Peter Thomas and Effie Alice Fuller Ayers.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was employed in the commercial refrigeration industry, retiring from Hussman Refrigeration.

He married Opal Fern O’Brien on Nov. 24, 1945, in Independence. She survives.

Other survivors include five sons, Thomas and Michael Ayers, both of Altoona, Steve Ayers, Topeka, Greg Ayers, Garden City, and Dave Ayers, Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Iva Livingston, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Cremation has been requested. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at High Prairie Methodist Church in Altoona under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, Fredonia.
