Barbara JoAnn Brinkmeyer, Grove, Okla., died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011 in Grove, at the age of 77 years.

JoAnn was born on Nov. 8, 1933 in Chanute, to Paul and Velma Harris. She grew up in Chanute attending Chanute schools, graduating from Chanute High School in 1951. One month after graduating, she married the love of her life, Baird Brinkmeyer on June 17, 1951.

Baird and JoAnn owned and operated the Self Service Grocery Store in Humboldt for 31 years. Following their retirement, they made their home in Grove for the past 25 years.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Dean Harris and Larry Harris, both of Topeka, and a niece.

She is survived by her husband, Baird, Grove; her children, Barbara and Lon Smelser, Topeka, Brenda and Willard Shaw, Oneida, Illi., David and Michelle Brinkmeyer, Wichita, Beth and Steven Neville, Pittsburg; six grandchildren; Lana, Jessica, Alex Alyssa, Stephanie and Sydney; her youngest brother Jim and Gana Harris, St. James, Mo., and many nieces and nephews.

JoAnn wishes were to be cremated and a graveside memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.
