Shirley Joan Mangine, 76, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 in Leawood. Shirley was born Jan. 31, 1935 in Concordia, to Russell and Muriellena Palmquist.

After graduating from Concordia High School, she joined the army, serving for two years during the Korean Conflict. She was honorably discharged, married Joseph Mangine, and moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. After the couple divorced, Shirley moved to Chanute, where she became co-owner and later proprietor of the Skyline Motel, spending more than 35 years of her life there. She retired in Wichita, and just recently moved to Leawood to be near family.

She was a life member of the American Legion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and grandson.

Shirley is survived by her children, Lori Morrison, Leawood, Terri Mangine, Irvine, Calif., Buddy Mangine, Prairie Village,; five grandchildren; one great-grandson and a sister, Wanda Barnes, Wichita.

The body was cremated and no service planned.
