Frances Maphies, 92, a resident of the Elmhaven Nursing Home in Parsons, died there Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011. She had resided there 14 years.
She was born May 16, 1919, at Jerico Springs, Mo., to Asa and Edna Bell Lester Lewallen. She grew up there and graduated from the Jerico Springs High School.
On May 12, 1943 she and Sam E. Maphies were married in Nevada, Mo. In 1954 they moved to Erie and lived on a farm east of town. Later they moved into Erie. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 2001.
She had been employed at the Farm Bureau Insurance office and later at the Bill George Insurance office, both in Erie.
Survivors include son, Leslie Maphies, Claremore, Okla.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery in Erie. Friends may call at the funeral home in Erie from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
