Margaret Anna Lassman, 88, Chanute, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 at the home of her grandson in Chanute.
Margaret was born on April 28, 1923 to Edward and Myrtle Nordt on a farm outside of Humboldt. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1942.
Margaret was united in marriage to Robert Lassman on May 30, 1943. After Bob’s military service, they settled in Chanute where they raised four daughters.
Together, Bob and Margaret owned and operated Lassman Electric, later known as Comfort Contractors. Margaret worked there as bookkeeper before retiring in 1982.
Throughout her life Margaret was active in Zion Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Neosho Home Extension Unit, and 4-H. She was a master seamstress and loved quilting. With Bob, Margaret spent a year in Red Lake, Canada serving as a missionary with LAMP, Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots. She lived her life giving her time, talents, and prayers to her Lord, family, friends, and anyone in need. “Remember that Jesus loves you” was her constant refrain.
Margaret is now singing and dancing with her husband, Robert, four sisters, and one brother, as well as other family and friends in Heaven.
She is survived by four daughters, Kathy Kiehl and husband, Jim, Huntsville, Ala., Terry Steinke and husband, Rich, Orlando, Fla., Patty Gerken, Bonner Springs, and Mari Huston, Chanute; 11 grandchildren, Kari Mitenberger, Mission Viejo, Calif., Peter Kiehl, Clearwater, Fla., Andrew Kiehl, Santa Rosa, Calif., Jill Heupel, Edwardsville, Ill., Amy Fortier, Colorado Springs, Colo., Matthew Steinke, Indianapolis, Ind., Melisa Jordan, Orlando, Fla., Tammy Adkins, Columbia, Mo.,, Brandon Gerken, Bonner Springs, Annie Hutson, Fuquay Varina, N.C., Lucas Hutson, Chanute; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Church. There will be a Praise Celebration at 7 p.m.
Memorials in her name may be made to Zion Lutheran Church and may be left with the funeral home.
