Laura Lee Troxel, 74, Chanute, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 at a Wichita-area hospital after a long illness. Laura Lee was born Oct. 4, 1937, to Clifford Dale and Marie Wiede Reno, in Yates Center and lived her life in Kansas. She moved to Great Bend then Ulysses during childhood and returned to southeast Kansas and settled in Chanute in the early 1980s. She spent much of her adult life working with the Avon cosmetics company and earned many honors and awards from her sales and service to the company. She enjoyed traveling to see her sister in Florida, family in Oklahoma, and spending holidays with friends and family.
She is preceeded in death by one brother, Clifford Dale Reno, Jr., who died in infancy, her parents, Clifford and Marie, her first husband, Murl Priest, her second husband, J B Troxel, and a stepson Dana Troxel. She is survived by her sisters, Lana Hauser, Ulysses. and Donna Reno, Lakeland Fla.; a daughter, Murlene Priest, Topeka; two stepdaughters, Janna (Don) Morris, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Sandy Amos and husband, Bob, Garden City; and a stepson, Mike Priest, Platteville Colo. Her granddaughter Haley Troxel lived with her in Chanute and helped care for her during her later years. In addition she had four other granddaughters, Misty, Jamie, Alexandra, and Bailey, and five grandsons, Sean, Levi, Brian, Brady and Shea, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws who will miss her.
Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society. In respect of Laura’s wishes, family and friends will be meeting at the Grain Bin at 314 E Main in Chanute on Monday. Dec. 19, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bring memories and stories to share. If you will be joining the family please contact Murlene, Haley, or Lana by Friday. Final burial will be in Ulysses.
