Helen Dennis, 95, Chanute, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, where she had resided for nine months.
Helen was born in Hiwassie, Ark. on Sept. 3, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Dora Spiva Biele. She graduated from Chanute High School.
Helen was united in marriage to Verle Dennis in May 1936. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1970.
She was a medical ward clerk at the Neosho Memorial Hospital for 23 years and a farm wife.
Helen is survived by a son, Richard Dennis and his wife, Jane, Chanute; a son-in-law, Ronald Cheyney, Chanute; three grandchildren, Rhonda LaRue, Jack Cheyney and Daryl Dennis, all of Chanute; three great-grandchildren, Garrett LaRue and Makayla LaRue, both of Chanute, and Alixandra Dennis, Pittsburg; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verle, a daughter, Janice Cheyney, and a grandson, Todd Dennis.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
