John Jones, 86, Chanute, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 at Heritage Nursing Home in Chanute.
John was born in Ingals, Okla., on Jan. 30, 1925 the son of James and Calla Anna Donia Reeves Jones. He graduated from Yale High School in 1942. John joined the Navy where he spent 21 years as a cook. After leaving the Navy he worked in various jobs and retired from the Iola School System as a bus driver for several years. John married Bernelle Kidwell Jones who preceded him in death in 1982. On Nov. 19, 1982 he married Glessie Dye Walters in Chanute.
He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW. While in the Navy he was able to play golf all over the world. He also like to bowl, fish, and loved to tease his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Glessie Jones, Chanute; three sons, William Jones of Texas, Frank Jones of Texas, and John Jones of Oklahoma; stepson Larry Dye, Chanute; stepgranddaughters, Lydia Dye, Parsons, and Desiree Dye, Lyndon; stepgrandsons, Quincy Dye, Chanute, Todd Kidwell, Chanute, Cody Dye, St. Louis, Mo., Casey Dye, Petrolia, Kyle Dye, Stark, and Tyler Kidwell, Chanute; one great grandson and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, George Jones, stepson, Dennis Dye, stepgrandson, Morgan Dye, and sisters, Agnes, Madeline, Josephine, and Fannie Belle.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Chanute Church of Christ.
