Betty Ruth Umbarger, 85, Coffeyville, formerly of Chanute, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Betty was born in Alma, Ark., on July 5, 1926, the daughter of Charles Jr., and Freda Smith Purkapile. She graduated from Altoona High School.
She was united in marriage to Troy Carter on Jan. 7, 1944 at Erie. He preceded her in death. She was later united in marriage to Chester Umbarger on June 28, 1969 at the First Christian Church in Chanute. He also preceded her in death.
Betty worked as a manager in Gift Shops.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Afton, OKla.
Betty is survived by her children, Brenda Coots, Afton, Okla., Billy Carter, Chanute, and Rocky Carter, Afton, Okla.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Troy, husband Chester, three sisters and two brothers.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan, 23 at the Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and may be left with the funeral home.
