Rowana Jean “Sally” Brooks, 78, Chanute, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute.

Rowana was born Dec. 23, 1933 in Chanute, the daughter of Vaughn and Irene Bossell Brooks. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1951.

Rowana enjoyed reading and crochet.

Rowana is survived by her daughter, Corey Brooks, Chanute; a son, Clayton Brooks and his wife, Mary Lou, Olathe; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with another soon to come; three sisters, Verna Owens, Iola, Kansas, Peggy Cheney, Wichita, Louise Brown and husband, James, Los Angeles, Calif.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Vaughn Brooks.

Funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at the New Hope Baptist Church, Chanute.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, Chanute.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, and may be left with the funeral home.
