Eugene R. Bailey, 92, Chanute, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at the Guest Home Estates II in Chanute.
Eugene was born on June 4, 1919 in Chanute, the son of Chester Eugene and Mary L. Hayes Bailey. He attended Chanute Schools.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1945.
Eugene was united in marriage to Elizabeth Pauline Burnett on Sept. 1, 1940 in Joplin, Mo. She survives, of the home.
He worked as a mechanic and maintenance man for Chanute Manufacturing until his retirement.
Eugene was a member of Faith Bible Church and loved to fish.
Along with his wife Pauline, he is survived by his children, Larry E. Bailey and his wife, Sue, Chanute, Mary E. Ediger and her husband, Leroy, Baxter Springs, Regina M. Seltman and her husband, Kemper, Topeka, Patricia L. Roberts and her husband, Earl, Chanute, and Jeffrey B. Bailey and his wife, Tammy, Chanute; 24 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James E. Bailey; and a brother, James C. Bailey.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Faith Bible Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in the Earlton Cemetery.
The family will receive this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
Memorials in his name may be made to Southern Care Hospice of Pittsburg and may be left with the funeral home.
