Lela Elizabeth Guadian, 97, Chanute, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 at the Chanute Health Care Center .
Lela was born in Chanute on Dec. 5, 1914, the daughter of Julio and Felicitias Alonzo Verdin. She attended St. Patrick Catholic School.
She was united in marriage to Pete Guadian on July 15, 1937 in Chanute. He survives.
Lela worked for Model Laundry.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Patrick Altar Society, the choir at St. Patrick Church, the prayer circle, and she was the coordinator of Our Lady Of Guadalupe Service for many years. She also worked on the Mexican Fiesta which her father started.
Along with her husband, Pete, she is survived by a daughter, Elvira “Terri” Escobar, Wichita; a granddaughter, Jaya Escobar, Wichita; nieces, Linda Lopez, Melody Hughes and Amelia Serrato, all of Chanute who were raised by Pete and Lela; and many additional nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and a niece, Margo Gutierrez Lindsey, whom they raised.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until Rosary at the church.
Memorials in her name may be made to St. Patrick Catholic School or The Window Restoration Fund at the Church.
