Eula Irene Hays, 87, Fort Scott, died Monday, March 1, 2012, at the Mercy Hospital of Fort Scott. She was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Fort Scott. She married James A. Hays on June 15, 1947, at Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1991.
In her earlier years, she had worked for Kress’s and Key Work Clothes. She later moved to Shawnee, Kansas where she was employed by Pyramid Life Insurance Company and Baker’s Florist. She loved working with flowers and being outdoors.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert Lightwine and wife, Esther, Emory, Texas, and Harold Lightwine and wife, Evelyn, Chanute. Also surviving are four nephews, Leslie Lightwine, Howard Lightwine, Anthony Lightwine, Michael Lightwine; and two nieces, Kelli Collins and Pam Hightower; 14 great-nieces and nephews; two great-great-nieces and a great-great-nephew. She was preceded in death by a brother Howard Lightwine.
The Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5 at the U. S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 a.m. at the Cheney Witt Chapel until leaving for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Memorials are suggested to the Sharing Bucket and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
