Michael Keith Grayson passed away in a tragic house fire at his home in Chanute on Sunday, March 18, 2012.

Michael was born June 21, 1990, in Chanute, the son of James and Cathy Nelson Grayson, and had resided in Chanute for all of his 21 years. He was a graduate of Chanute High School.

Michael worked as a heavy equipment operator for Byers Quarry, but his genuine passion was for racing, and he was a familiar face in the pits (and sometimes, behind the wheel) at the Humboldt Speedway.

Along with his parents, he is survived by his son, Landon Michael Shelton; a sister, Cassie Grayson, Chanute; his grandmothers, Eva Grayson and Colletta Nelson; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jimmy Grayson and Richard Nelson.

Services will be held Friday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, Chanute.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Memorials in Michael’s name may be made to the family, to defray funeral expenses, and may be left at the funeral home.
