Charles Nicholas Thummel, 79, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at his home in Thayer.

Charles was born in Tipton on July 13, 1932, the son of Joseph and Anna Simeon Thummel. He attended Piqua schools.

He was united in marriage to Dorotha L. White on Sept, 14, 1970 in Miami, Okla. She survives, of the home.

Charles owned Thummel Lumber Company and was also a cattleman.

Along with his wife Dorotha, he is survived by his children, Marsha S. Bogle, Chanute, Joni Y. Thummel, Humboldt, Rodney C. Thummel, Yates Center, Clifford C. Thummel, Humboldt, Oliver F. Bunker, Chanute, and Bryan C. Thummel, Thayer; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rozella Koester, Chanute; and a brother, Leo Thummel, Iola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, three brothers and a grandson.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 27 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. Burial will follow at 11:45 a.m. at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in Piqua.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’Catholic Church, followed by Rosary at 7:45 p.m.

Memorials in his name may be made to Harry Hynes Hospice of Coffeyville and may be left with the funeral home.
