William “Bill” E. Blythe, 80, Chanute, died on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. Bill was born on August 13, 1931, at Council Grove, to Cephus Carey and Lottie May Weston Blythe.

Bill was married to Mildred Hoover on July 15, 1951. She died in 1988.

He graduated from Dwight High School and joined the Air Force on June 3, 1949. He was discharged on Dec, 2, 1952 and attended Pittsburg State University. He taught mechanics for several years. He worked for the ABZ Manufacturing in Madison as a machinist.

Fifteen years ago he became a companion of Mary Schlotterbeck and they shared a home in Chanute.

He is survived by his companion, Mary, of the home; a son Calvin Blythe, Hutchinson; a daughter Anita Blythe, Eureka; three grandchildren; his brothers, Andrew Blythe, Council Grove, Robert Blythe Grove, Okla., Don Blythe, Luann, Winchester, Ky., and Cecil Blythe, Laynetta, Thorton, Colo.; his sisters, Elaine Blanton, Alma, Sara Kerstetter, Newton, and Audra Wehling, Longmont, Colo., Mary’s son, Harley Schlotterbeck, Chanute; his two children and his three grandchildren; several nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today, May 1, 2012, at the Barton City Cemetery, northwest of Liberal, Mo.
